Introduction

Birdy Bar is a neighbourhood cocktail bar in Wagga Wagga, reimagined from its former life as Birdhouse Bar & Kitchen. With new owners, a new name and a new fit-out, the brief was to mark a new era for the venue with a personality that felt fun, cheeky and a little bit sexy.

Process and outcome

The venue sits within Recess Hospitality Group, a client I'd worked with since 2021 and whose parent brand I also designed. Its interiors were designed by The Design Gallery, a studio I'd collaborated with on previous projects. Because I was working remotely, we held the branding until the interior renders were complete so the identity could respond to the space. The result feels embedded in the venue rather than applied on top.

The identity centres on a stamp-style wordmark paired with a hand-painted display typeface and a library of my own illustrations, from retro pin-up inspired characters to event-themed pieces. I also shaped the tagline and tone of voice, and many of the phrases set out in the brand guide carried through launch and social campaigns. The system rolled out across menus, signage, uniforms, coasters and a large suite of social templates.

After the venue reopened in 2023, I continued to support it with a run of merchandise and campaigns for 9+ events.
